Windows Installer Setup GuideHow to install GeoServer on Microsoft Windows with the installer (.exe). 1) Installing a Java Development Kit
2) Download GeoServerHead to GeoServer.org and grab the latest .exe version of the windows installer.
3) Run the InstallerDouble click on the installer that you just downloaded. 1) The following dialog asks you to ensure you have the needed JAVA_HOME environment variable Note that it is standard for a pop up window to tell you which version of Java it is using. If you would like it to use a different Java version that you have installed, then cancel the installer and set JAVA_HOME to the home directory of the version you'd like to use. If it can not find an appropriate version of Java JDK to use it will warn you. You should first install Java JDK before using the installer, so that the links to run the application work correctly. 2) Read the GPL license and continue 3) Choose your install location 4) The next page asks you where your data directory is. If this is your first time installing, just hit next. If you have a previous version of GeoServer and you want to use its configuration, select its data directory. 5) Choose your shortcut folder On completion short cuts will appear in the Windows Start menu.
4) Start GeoServerTo start GeoServer (using the included Jetty Servlet Container), locate your GeoServer in the Start menu. Select "Start GeoServer" and enjoy This will run the application until Stop GeoServer is hit.
